Centre Sanctions Prosecution of Ex-Punjab Chief Secretary V K Janjua in Corruption Case
•The Centre has granted prosecution sanction against former Punjab chief secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua in a 16-year-old corruption case.
•The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensioners sanctioned the prosecution under Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
•Janjua, a 1989-batch IAS officer, served as chief secretary in the AAP government from July 2022 until his retirement in June 2023.
•The corruption case originated from a 2009 complaint by industrialist T R Mishra, accusing Janjua of seeking a Rs 6 lakh bribe for a plot allotment.
•Janjua was arrested in 2009 for allegedly accepting Rs 2 lakh, but a trial court discharged him in 2015, citing the Centre as the competent sanctioning authority.
