Delhi Court Dismisses Defamation Suit Over 'Bully' Instagram Post
•A Delhi court dismissed a civil defamation suit filed by restaurant owner Vidur Kanodia against social-media professional Lakshita Jain.
•The suit was over alleged derogatory Instagram posts, with the court ruling that terms like “bully” and “unprofessional” did not meet the legal threshold for defamation.
•District Judge Arvind Bansal observed that the posts were “reasonable expressions of criticism” arising from a commercial dispute over payment for social-media promotion services.
•Kanodia sought Rs 50 lakh in damages and removal of posts, claiming reputational harm, but failed to provide sufficient evidence.
•The court emphasized balancing free speech with reputation, stating it cannot “knock down reasonable expressions of criticism on social media under the garb of defamation law”.
