Govt approves additional 87,587 tonnes sugar export quota for 2025-26

Food ministry approved an additional 87,587 tonnes of sugar export quota for the 2025-26 marketing year.
•
This allocation is part of an earlier 500,000 tonnes additional quota, with the remainder lapsing due to fewer requests.
•
Mills must export at least 70% of their allocated sugar by June 30, 2026, or face deductions from future quotas.
•
No extensions or quota swaps allowed; violations may lead to action under Essential Commodities Act, 1955.
•
India has exported 315,000 tonnes of sugar from October to February in the 2025-26 season.
