India-EU FTA Includes Model Mediation Procedures for Dispute Resolution

•India and the EU's free trade agreement (FTA) now features an annexure for model mediation procedures to resolve disputes.
•Mediation aims for a mutually agreed solution through an expeditious process with a mediator's assistance.
•A party can request mediation for measures adversely affecting trade, but it requires mutual agreement to initiate.
•The agreement, announced on January 27, includes 20 chapters, with a separate chapter on dispute settlement and digital trade.
•The FTA, described as the 'mother of all deals,' will provide duty-free access for 93% of Indian shipments to the EU.
