India Kicks Off Trade Pact Talks with Philippines, Maldives

India inked Terms of Reference (ToR) with the Philippines and Maldives to commence negotiations for trade agreements.
•
Negotiations with the Philippines aim for a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA), while with the Maldives, it's for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
•
The ToR outlines the scope and modalities of these proposed trade pacts.
•
India's exports to the Philippines rose to USD 2.16 billion; imports from Maldives increased to USD 118.82 million in 2024-25.
•
India is also reviewing existing pacts like AITIGA (ASEAN) and India-Korea CEPA, and pursuing talks with GCC, Canada, EU, New Zealand, and others.
