Indian Women's Cricket Participation Soars: New Study Reveals Doubled Engagement Across States

Women's cricket participation in India doubled across 14 states since 2020, according to a study by BBC and Collective Newsroom.
•
Overall participation rose from 5% in 2020 to 10% now, with young women (15-24) showing an even faster increase from 6% to 16%.
•
One in four young women (15-24) now consider a career in sport, up from 16% in 2020, with Tamil Nadu leading in interest.
•
Cricket has overtaken kabaddi as the most played sport among women, with Uttar Pradesh seeing a 10-fold increase in participation.
•
Despite significant growth, safety concerns remain a barrier for 13% of women who do not play any sport.
