India's Energy Storage Capacity to Skyrocket to 346 GWh by 2033: Report
•India's installed energy storage capacity is projected to reach 346 GWh by 2033, a significant jump from the current nearly 1 GWh.
•The Stationary Energy Storage India (SESI) 2026 conference, organized by IESA, unveiled a white paper detailing this growth.
•The total pipeline for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects has hit a record 92 GWh, with 69 new tenders totaling 102 GWh in the past year.
•Pumped hydro energy storage (PHES) capacity is also expected to surge from 7 GW in 2025 to 107 GW by 2033.
•This acceleration is driven by initiatives like Energy Storage Obligations (ESO), Viability Gap Funding (VGF), and recognition in Electricity Amendment Rules 2025.
