Karnataka to formulate its own civil aviation policy; CM to meet on Ballari airport site
•Karnataka Infrastructure Development Minister M B Patil announced the state is formulating its own civil aviation policy, covering various sector aspects.
•A meeting under CM Siddaramaiah will soon discuss the Ballari airport location, considering feasibility and viability, involving public representatives from Ballari, Vijayanagara, and Koppal.
•Patil requested the Union Civil Aviation Minister to extend the UDAN scheme from 3 to 5 years and introduce a 50:50 Centre-state support for the subsequent 5 years due to airports shutting down.
•KIADB identified two new sites (800 & 1200 acres) in Ballari for the proposed airport, as the previous site faced high land acquisition costs and required an 8-lane greenfield highway.
•Minister highlighted past planning mistakes in Hubballi-Belagavi (too close) and Vijayapura (wrong location for tourism), stressing foresight for new airport projects.
