Kaziranga Waterbird Estimation: Over 1 Lakh Birds, 107 Species Recorded
•The 7th Kaziranga Waterbird Estimation recorded 1,05,540 birds of 107 species across the Kaziranga–Laokhowa–Burhachapori floodplain complex.
•The findings confirm the landscape as a significant wintering waterbird assemblage in the Brahmaputra valley and a key node in the Central Asian Flyway.
•Major species documented include grazing waterfowl, dabbling ducks, diving ducks, marsh specialists, waders, storks, cormorants, and piscivorous raptors.
•Migratory geese, including 19,133 Bar-headed Geese and 6,533 Greylag Geese, accounted for over 25,000 birds.
•The estimation exceeds the Ramsar Criterion 5 benchmark of 20,000 waterbirds, documenting endangered and vulnerable species like Leptoptilos dubius and Lesser Adjutant.
