Mannepalli Advances at Swiss Open as Nishimoto Retires Due to Injury

•Indian shuttler Tharun Mannepalli entered the men’s singles second round of the Swiss Open after Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto retired mid-match.
•Mannepalli, ranked 43rd, was leading 16-21, 21-16, 7-2 against the fifth-seeded Nishimoto, who retired due to a shoulder issue.
•The 24-year-old Mannepalli will next face Malaysia’s Justin Hoh in the second round.
•In women’s singles, Malvika Bansod lost to Thailand’s world No. 4 Pornpawee Chochuwong 11-21, 15-21.
•Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty, Kiran George, Dhruv Kapila, and Tanisha Crasto are also scheduled to play later.
