Odisha Wildfires: 4,609 Hectares Affected in 2025, Minister Details Prevention Efforts

•Odisha Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia reported 4,609 hectares of forest affected by fires last year.
•Nabarangpur forest division saw the highest damage (644.53 ha), followed by Khariar (460.67 ha) and Phulbani (395.63 ha).
•The state spent Rs 12.81 crore on fire prevention and Rs 4 crore on soil moisture conservation/plantation in 2024-25.
•Preventive measures include creating fire lines, conducting awareness campaigns, mock drills, and forming 334 trained fire protection squads.
•AI cameras in Simlipal, 24x7 control rooms, and FSI website registration for employee mobile numbers enhance fire management and alerts.
