Odisha Wildfires: 4,609 Hectares Affected in 2025, Minister Details Prevention Efforts

Odisha Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia reported 4,609 hectares of forest affected by fires last year.
•
Nabarangpur forest division saw the highest damage (644.53 ha), followed by Khariar (460.67 ha) and Phulbani (395.63 ha).
•
The state spent Rs 12.81 crore on fire prevention and Rs 4 crore on soil moisture conservation/plantation in 2024-25.
•
Preventive measures include creating fire lines, conducting awareness campaigns, mock drills, and forming 334 trained fire protection squads.
•
AI cameras in Simlipal, 24x7 control rooms, and FSI website registration for employee mobile numbers enhance fire management and alerts.
