Punjab Ministers Review Wheat Procurement for 2026-27 Season, Target 132 Lakh Tonne

•Punjab's Group of Ministers (GoM) reviewed arrangements for the 2026-27 wheat procurement season, aiming for smooth and transparent operations.
•Procurement is expected to begin on April 1, with an estimated 132 lakh tonne of wheat to be procured at an MSP of Rs 2,585 per quintal.
•Storage remains a concern; 15 lakh tonne of wheat needs to be moved monthly to create adequate space, a matter raised with the Centre.
•The state is acquiring plastic and wooden crates, and district administrations are coordinating with FCI for contingency plans.
•The GoM discussed arhtiyas' demand for increased commission and reiterated commitment to a hassle-free procurement season.
