Sanctioned Russian Tanker Explodes, Sinks Off Libya; All 30 Crew Rescued

•A Russian-flagged tanker, Arctic Metagaz, carrying 61,000 tons of liquefied natural gas, exploded and sank off the coast of Libya.
•The incident occurred on Tuesday, about 240 kilometres off the Libyan city of Sirte, with a massive fire following a sudden explosion.
•The tanker was under Western sanctions and suspected to be part of Russia’s shadow fleet, attempting to bypass sanctions over the war in Ukraine.
•All 30 crew members were successfully rescued and transferred to another vessel heading to Benghazi; no casualties were reported.
•The Arctic Metagaz had sailed from Murmansk, Russia, and was bound for Port Said in Egypt, its last reported position was off Malta.
