World Bank Approves Rs 5,700 Crore for Haryana's Water Conservation Project

  • The World Bank has approved Rs 5,700 crore technical and financial assistance for the 'Jal Sanrakshit Haryana Project' to make the state water self-reliant.
  • Funds will be disbursed in phases from 2026 to 2032, primarily for large-scale canal restoration and micro-irrigation systems.
  • The project aims to restore all 1,570 canals in Haryana, with 892 already restored and the remaining 678 planned for completion in five years through World Bank, state budget, and NABARD funding.
  • Micro-irrigation systems will be implemented on 70,000 acres, and tube-well-based drainage will address waterlogging on 200,000 acres.
  • The initiative also includes promoting sustainable agriculture, strengthening groundwater recharge with 80 water bodies, and reusing treated wastewater for irrigation on 28,000 acres.

Why It Matters: World Bank's Rs 5,700 crore aid will transform Haryana's water management, ensuring self-reliance and sustainability.
