In 1951, it hosted the lavish royal wedding of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and Soraya Esfandiary-Bakhtiary.

Soraya's iconic Christian Dior wedding gown featured 37 yards of silver lamé, 6,000 diamonds, 20,000 feathers, and weighed 66 pounds.
