Japan Visa Rule Change: Mandatory Appointments for Indian Tourists from March 2026

•From March 2, 2026, Indian tourists applying for a Japan visa at select VFS Global centers will require mandatory prior appointments.
•The new rule applies to VFS centers in Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad, Puducherry, and Bengaluru for all visa categories.
•Each applicant, including family members, needs an individual online slot, and a confirmation email must be presented at the center.
•The change aims to manage seasonal surges, regulate application volumes, reduce overcrowding, and enhance security.
•Visa fees for Indian nationals are INR 450, and processing takes a minimum of 6 working days from submission at the Consulate General of Japan.
