Himroo Shawl: Dilip Kumar's Mughal-e-Azam Sherwani & Marathi Celebs' Favorite

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar's Himroo art, a royal tradition, is kept alive by the Qureshi family in Nawabpura, now in its sixth generation.

The sherwani worn by Dilip Kumar in 'Mughal-e-Azam' was made from Himroo fabric woven at the 'Aurangabad Himroo Factory'.
•
Himroo, meaning 'replica' from Persian, is a complex, completely hand-woven fabric requiring two artisans and no modern machinery.
•
It takes 12 to 15 days to produce one meter of Himroo shawl or fabric, depending on design complexity.
•
Himroo is a premium fabric, priced from 4500 to 6000 rupees per meter; customers are advised to identify authentic handloom Himroo to avoid fakes.
