Gauhati High Court Appoints Judge for Fast-Track Trial in Zubeen Garg Death Case

Gauhati High Court appoints Sharmila Bhuyan, District Judge of Baksa, to preside over a fast-track sessions court for the Zubeen Garg death case.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar for the nomination, calling it a "significant milestone" for justice.

The move aims to greatly expedite the judicial process and ensure timely justice in the high-profile case.

Assam Government had previously decided to seek a fast-track trial for the case in February, citing public order and governance credibility.

Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore on September 19, 2025, after drowning while intoxicated at a yacht party, as per a Coroner's court report.
