Mumbai Gears Up for Monsoon: BMC Boosts Water Pumps to Combat Flooding

•Mumbai is preparing for the monsoon by increasing the number of water pumps to tackle waterlogging.
•The BMC's Stormwater Drain Department will install 547 pumps, up from 422 last year, to pump out water from low-lying areas.
•Tenders for these pumps have been invited on a two-year contract basis, with an estimated cost of up to 142 crores.
•146 pumps are allocated for the city area, 223 for western suburbs, and 178 for eastern suburbs.
•Extensive drain cleaning is also underway across Mumbai, with a target to complete all cleaning before the monsoon.
