150-Year-Old SS City of Hobart Wreckage Found: A Historical Treasure

•The SS City of Hobart, an iron steamer carrying 615 tons of coal, sank in 1877 en route from Newcastle to Melbourne.
•Its wreckage was discovered in March 2026, 150 years later, 30 km off the Gippsland coast at a depth of 60 meters.
•Iberdrola Australia found the wreck during a survey for the Aurora Green project, confirmed by Southern Ocean Exploration divers.
•No gold or silver was found; the ship carried only coal, but it's significant for 19th-century marine engineering history.
•The gold-laden 'Holy Grail of shipwrecks,' the Madagascar from 1853, remains unfound, revealing the ocean's many secrets.
