Inhumane Act: Family Blocks Funeral Procession Over Land Dispute in Vijayawada
•An inhumane incident occurred in Velvadaram, Mylavaram Mandal, NTR district, where a dead body was prevented from being taken for its final journey due to an old land dispute.
•Pattipati Venkateswara Rao (60) passed away, and his family attempted to use a panchayat road for the funeral procession, which was obstructed by a neighbor, Saggurthi Jayaraju, claiming ownership.
•Jayaraju's family blocked the path, arguing they had been growing plants there for three years and refused to clear it despite pleas, leading to a scuffle where the body was almost dropped.
•Police intervened and forcibly moved the body to the crematorium; however, Jayaraju's family immediately blocked the path again with curtains and vehicles after the procession passed.
•The police are awaiting a report from panchayat and revenue officials to determine the land's ownership and have assured strict action against those responsible.
