FIIs Boost Mid-Cap Holdings Amidst Broader Market Sell-Off
- •Foreign Institutional Investor (FII) holding in the Nifty MidCap 150 index reached a multi-month high of 16.4% in the December quarter, marking the third consecutive quarterly increase.
- •In contrast, FII holding in Nifty 50 companies declined to a three-quarter low of 25.5%, and small-cap segment ownership also fell to a four-quarter low of 14.2%.
- •Sector-wise, FII holdings saw year-on-year increases in telecom (+23.8%), media (+14.3%), materials (+11.2%), metals (+9.6%), and financials (+9.5%).
- •FIIs reduced exposure to utilities, consumer staples, consumer discretionary, banks, and real estate.
- •Domestic Institutional Investor (DII) holdings increased across all market segments, with Nifty 50, Nifty MidCap 150, Nifty SmallCap 250, and Nifty 500 indices all seeing higher DII ownership.
Why It Matters: FIIs are selectively increasing mid-cap exposure, while DIIs show growing dominance across all market segments.
