New Gas Cylinder Rules: Hoarding, Dual Connections Face 7-Year Jail Term

Government tightens rules on cooking gas use, targeting hoarding and dual LPG/PNG connections.

Domestic consumers can keep a maximum of two 14.2 kg LPG cylinders; storing over 40 kg without permission is considered hoarding.
•
Violators of hoarding rules face 3 months to 7 years imprisonment under the Essential Commodities Act 1955, and gas connections can be canceled.
•
New rule makes it illegal to have both PNG and LPG connections simultaneously; consumers in PNG-served areas must surrender LPG.
•
Complaints about illegal gas storage can be made via the 1906 LPG Emergency Helpline, District Food and Supply Department, or local authorities.
