BMTC, Chalo Pilot Dynamic QR-Based UPI Ticketing in Bengaluru Buses
•Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and mobility startup Chalo are piloting dynamic QR-based UPI ticketing using electronic ticketing machines (ETMs).
•The pilot began with 50 buses at depot 26 (Yeshwantpur) and aims for full depot rollout by early May.
•The new system auto-generates QR codes for each transaction, replacing static QR codes and preventing fraud.
•Chalo will supply 11,000 smart ETMs and software under a Rs 30 crore, four-year contract.
•The system supports UPI, QR codes, smart cards, and NCMC, with plans for a Shakti smart card for free women's travel.
