DRI Busts China E-Waste Smuggling Ring at Mumbai Port, Seizes Banned Walkie-Talkies

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) uncovered an international smuggling racket at Mumbai Port.
•
11,060 blacklisted Baofeng BF-888S walkie-talkies, banned in India, were illegally imported from China.
•
These walkie-talkies operate on a restricted frequency (400–480 MHz), posing a national security threat by disrupting security agency communications.
•
52,480 second-hand Hard Disk Drives (HDDs), classified as e-waste and prohibited for import, were also seized.
•
Two traders (father and son) from Lamington Road, Mumbai, were arrested for providing false information to smuggle goods worth 30 crore rupees.
