Aligarh's 300-Year-Old Jama Masjid: 17 Golden Domes, 5000 Worshippers
•
Aligarh's Upperkot Jama Masjid, a 300-year-old historical heritage, accommodates 5,000 worshippers simultaneously.
•
The mosque features 17 domes made of solid gold, unlike the Taj Mahal's gold plating, using 5-6 quintals of gold.
•
Built between 1724-1728 by Sabit Khan Jang Bahadur, its architecture blends Awadhi and Mughal styles, similar to the Taj Mahal.
•
It is built on the city's highest point and includes a separate prayer area for women.
•
The mosque is also known as Ganj-e-Shahidan, housing the graves of 73 martyrs from the 1857 revolution.
