Balurghat's Controversial Food Plaza: When Will It Open?

Balurghat Municipality built a state-of-the-art Food Plaza for 30 lakh rupees near Thana More, aiming to consolidate street food stalls.

The project, initiated under former chairman Ashok Mitra, faced controversy after a change in leadership.
•
Mitra's plan for 'Natya Sambad Kaksha' and 'Pur Sambad Kaksha' within the plaza was canceled by current chairman Surajit Saha.
•
Saha affirmed the Food Plaza would exclusively house food stalls, with the cultural rooms to be built elsewhere, sparking conflict.
•
Despite construction starting in late 2025, no inauguration date has been announced, leaving residents awaiting its opening.
