Boyra Kali Mandir in Kaliaganj, Uttar Dinajpur, is a prominent 'awakened' Kali temple whose glory has spread globally.
•
Historically, traders on the Srimati River worshipped the deity, and the temple is believed to be named after a Boyra tree.
•
Later, as the Srimati River dried, the area became a jungle frequented by robbers who also worshipped the Mother.
•
In 1932, a police inspector, seeking the deity's help against robbers, reportedly established the current temple.
•
The temple houses an Ashtadhatu idol, with the current one from 1998; devotees flock daily, especially on Deepavali, believing wishes are fulfilled.
