Van Driver Dies by Suicide Over SIR List Exclusion in Usthi, Family Blames Despair
•Rafiq Ali Gazi, a 44-year-old van driver from Usthi, South 24 Parganas, died by suicide after his name was excluded from the final SIR list.
•Family claims Gazi was in despair since receiving the SIR notice and submitting all documents, only to find his name still pending.
•He checked the list on the 28th, returned home dejected, and subsequently took the extreme step by hanging himself.
•Rafiq Ali Gazi, five family members, and 111 other residents in booth number 141 are on the pending SIR list.
•Trinamool Congress has called for a protest, alleging a conspiracy to exclude minorities; Panchayat member Jamsidul Islam Sardar's name is also pending.
