Modi Govt's NMP 2.0: India's Ambitious Asset Recycling Experiment Scales Up

•National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) 2.0 aims to recycle public assets to finance new infrastructure without increasing public debt.
•The program targets Rs 16.7 lakh crore in monetisation from FY26 to FY30, making it one of the largest asset recycling initiatives globally.
•NMP 2.0 is a scale-up of the 2021 pipeline, which achieved 89% of its Rs 6 lakh crore target, demonstrating proven execution.
•Ownership of underlying assets remains with the state; only operation, maintenance, and revenue rights are transferred for a defined period.
•Success hinges on transparent valuation, stable regulatory frameworks, and recycling proceeds into productive capital expenditure.
