RBI proposes ₹25,000 compensation for digital fraud victims

RBI proposes a compensation framework for small digital banking frauds, offering up to ₹25,000 once in a lifetime.

Victims can receive 85% of net loss or ₹25,000 (whichever is lower) for losses up to ₹50,000.
•
Fraud must be reported to the bank and National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal/Helpline within five calendar days to qualify.
•
Compensation involves contributions from RBI (65%), customer's bank (10%), and beneficiary bank (10%) for losses below ₹29,412.
•
The framework expands definitions of fraudulent transactions, clarifies bank/customer negligence, and mandates zero liability in specific cases.
