Rajasthan Railway Boost: Merta-Bikaner Track Upgrade for 160 Kmph Speed

  • The Merta-Bikaner railway section is undergoing a major upgrade, replacing 75 KM of old tracks laid in 1992.
  • The first phase, costing 24 crore rupees, involves replacing 75 KM of track starting from Chapri station, with 25 KM already laid.
  • Post-renovation, trains will initially run at 130 Kmph, with the track technically capable of supporting 160 Kmph.
  • New tracks use heavy-duty 60 kg per meter material (up from 52 kg) and increased GMT from 550 to 800 for enhanced strength and lifespan.
  • This upgrade will save 40-50 minutes on journeys to Jaipur and Jodhpur from Nagaur, and about an hour to Delhi, significantly improving connectivity for Western Rajasthan.

Why It Matters: Merta-Bikaner railway track modernization promises faster, safer travel and boosts Western Rajasthan's development.
