Yunus Declares Himself VVIP Days Before Exit, Sparks Controversy in Bangladesh
•
Muhammad Yunus secretly declared himself a 'Very Very Important Person' (VVIP) two days before leaving office as Bangladesh's Chief Advisor.
•
The declaration was made via a government gazette on February 10 but was not published online as per instructions from his office.
•
The primary motive was to retain Special Security Force (SSF) protection, which is not automatically granted to outgoing heads of state.
•
The gazette cited Section 2(a) of the Special Security Force Act, 2021, and was signed by Md. Saifullah Panna.
•
Yunus served as Chief Advisor for approximately 18 months following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in August 2024.
