Palamu's 'Knowledge Chariot' now scrap: Mobile library's decline sparks concern

•Palamu district once operated a 'book vehicle' or mobile library, taking books to villages.
•The blue-colored vehicle, known as 'Gyan Rath', carried 3,000-4,000 books, including literature, history, and novels.
•Villagers became members, borrowing and returning books, fostering a strong reading culture.
•The mobile library was supported by the Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
•Currently, the vehicle lies as scrap in the district library premises, but 87 lakh rupees have been approved to make the library a model.
