•Born Meherbano Mohammad Ali on March 2, 1934, she gained fame with her role in the 1949 film Patanga.
•Purnima was married twice; her first marriage to Syed Shauqat Hashmi produced Emraan's father, Anwar Hashmi.
•She was the maternal aunt of Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt, making Emraan and Alia Bhatt cousins.
