A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck off Taiwan's northeastern county of Yilan on Tuesday.

The quake briefly shook buildings in the capital, Taipei, but no damage was reported.

The earthquake had a depth of 66.8 km (41.5 miles).

Its epicenter was 16.9 km (10.5 miles) from the Yilan county government seat, in coastal waters.

Taiwan is prone to earthquakes due to its location near the junction of two tectonic plates.
