Cuba Plunges into Darkness: Widespread Blackout Amid US Oil Chokehold

•A widespread power outage struck most of Cuba, including Havana, due to an unexpected fault at the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant.
•The blackout extends from Pinar del Rio in the far west to central-eastern Camaguey province, leaving only far eastern provinces with electricity.
•The outage comes as Cuba faces increased pressure from the Trump administration, curtailing oil shipments, particularly from Venezuela.
•Repairs to the Guiteras generating station could take three to four days, focusing on fixing the boiler's superheater and other leaks.
•Cuba attributes its economic crisis and lack of power investment to decades of US sanctions; Mexico also halted oil supplies after US threats.
