US Imposes 126% Duties on Indian Solar Imports, Citing Subsidies

The US Commerce Department will levy countervailing duties on solar cells and panels from India, Indonesia, and Laos.

The department concluded that producers in these countries benefited from government subsidies, undercutting American manufacturers.

Overall subsidy rates are set at 126% for India, 104% for Indonesia, and 80% for Laos.

The decision follows a petition by US solar manufacturers, including Hanwha Qcells and First Solar, seeking relief from unfairly traded imports.
•
This action is the first of two determinations; a separate ruling on below-cost sales is expected next month.
