DU to Offer M.Sc Elective in Linguistic Anthropology, Bridging Key Knowledge Gap
•Delhi University's Anthropology Department proposes a new M.Sc elective on 'Linguistic Anthropology' for the second year of the master’s programme under PGCF 2024.
•The four-credit paper, titled ‘M.Sc Linguistic Anthropology’, will cover topics like language use, linguistic forms, and Sanskrit as an ancient Indian language.
•Professor Dannarapu Venkata Prasad confirmed the paper will be presented for approval, aiming to become a core subject eventually.
•HOD Soumendra Mohan Patnaik highlighted the long-felt need to introduce this branch, aligning with Franz Boas's integrated understanding of society.
•The initiative, supported by NEP 2020, aims to explore classical languages and their link to the Indian Knowledge System, addressing a historical under-representation.
