Governor Arlekar prorogues TN Assembly session; elections likely in April

Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar prorogued the Legislative Assembly session on Friday, March 13.
•
The session, which commenced on January 20, 2026, concluded on February 20 after Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu presented the interim budget.
•
The prorogation was exercised under Article 174(2)(a) of the Constitution of India.
•
Earlier, former Governor R N Ravi had walked out of the assembly, alleging insult to the national anthem, drawing criticism from CM M K Stalin.
•
State assembly elections are anticipated to be held in April.
