Gurugram Police Secure Victim Compensation from Crime Proceeds: First Under BNSS

•Gurugram Police secured Rs 1.30 lakh compensation for a woman duped of Rs 14.5 lakh in a fraud case.
•The compensation was obtained by auctioning a car bought by the accused using the proceeds of crime.
•This is claimed to be the first direct victim compensation from crime proceeds in India under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
•The accused defrauded the woman by promising marriage and used the money to purchase the car.
•Police filed a petition under BNSS Section 107 (1), leading to court-ordered confiscation and e-auction of the vehicle.
