US Forces Withdraw from Key Northeast Syria Base, Equipment Moved to Iraq
•US military is withdrawing forces and equipment from the Qasrak base in northeast Syria, moving them to Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region.
•Associated Press journalists observed a convoy of dozens of trucks carrying military vehicles and equipment moving towards the Iraqi border from Qamishli.
•Evacuation of the base began Sunday, with approximately 200 soldiers remaining on Monday to dismantle jamming, air defense systems, and engineering sections.
•This withdrawal follows the transfer of 5,700 accused Islamic State militants from Syrian detention centers to Iraqi prisons.
•The move is part of a larger drawdown of US forces in Syria, with troops also having left the al-Tanf base earlier this month.
