US Forces to Withdraw from Syria Within a Month, Ending 12-Year Presence

•US forces leading the anti-Islamic State coalition will complete their withdrawal from Syria within a month, sources told AFP.
•Troops have begun leaving major bases, with two already vacated in the past two weeks.
•The withdrawal coincides with Syria's government expanding control in the northeast and joining the anti-IS coalition.
•An IS attack in Raqa killed four Syrian security personnel, highlighting the group's continued threat despite territorial defeat.
•Approximately 1,000 US troops are currently deployed in Syria, with the full withdrawal expected within 20 days to five weeks.
