Cashless Tolls by 2026: FASTag, UPI Mandatory for Highway Payments

From April 1, 2026, cash payments at national highway toll plazas will be discontinued.
•
All user fee payments will exclusively transition to digital modes like FASTag and UPI.
•
Currently, over 98% FASTag penetration has been achieved, with UPI also available as an alternative.
•
Vehicles without a valid FASTag will not be able to pay cash and may face penalties.
•
The shift aims to reduce waiting times, congestion, and improve transparency at over 1,150 toll plazas.
