Cashless Tolls by 2026: FASTag, UPI Mandatory for Highway Payments

•From April 1, 2026, cash payments at national highway toll plazas will be discontinued.
•All user fee payments will exclusively transition to digital modes like FASTag and UPI.
•Currently, over 98% FASTag penetration has been achieved, with UPI also available as an alternative.
•Vehicles without a valid FASTag will not be able to pay cash and may face penalties.
•The shift aims to reduce waiting times, congestion, and improve transparency at over 1,150 toll plazas.
