Gauhati HC Issues Notice to Himanta Biswa Over Hate Speech, Cites 'Fissiparous Tendency'
•Gauhati High Court issued notice to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma regarding multiple petitions seeking action for alleged hate speeches against the Muslim community.
•A Division Bench of Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar and Justice Arun Dev Choudhury sought responses from Sarma and the governments, noting his speeches showed a "fissiparous tendency."
•The pleas accuse Sarma of repeatedly targeting the Muslim community using the derogatory term 'Miya' and cited a BJP Assam video showing him 'shooting' animated Muslim men.
•The Supreme Court previously declined to intervene, sending the matter to the Gauhati High Court and noting a "disturbing trend" of courts becoming political battlegrounds.
•Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi argued Sarma is a "habitual offender" and his remarks affect the entire country; CPI(M) and CPI leader Annie Raja also filed pleas for FIRs and an SIT.
