•Accused stole Rs 2.5 lakh from Puttaraju, who was lured under the pretext of a gold auction.
•The crime occurred on February 19 in a forest near Honnavalli; Puttaraju's body was found by a milk vendor.
•Shafi used the stolen money to give Rs 60,000 and buy a new television for his estranged ex-wife.
•Police investigation led to Shafi's arrest; further probe is ongoing.
