Electrification Saves Railways 6000 Crore, Accidents Down 90%: Rail Minister

He countered opposition claims, stating 70% of coaches are general category, serving common people, not just premium passengers.

Significant investments in safety, infrastructure, and technology have led to a 90% decrease in train accidents.

Post-2014, 35,000 km of new tracks laid and 27,000 km electrified, improving speed, capacity, and cost control.
•
Railway budget increased from 24-25 thousand crore to 2.72 lakh crore, with a record 2.78 lakh crore allocated for 2026-27.
