Smart Meter Recharge Fails? UPPCL to Pay Rs 50 Compensation in 2 Hours!

•UPPCL will pay Rs 50 compensation if power isn't restored within 2 hours of smart meter recharge due to negative balance.
•This compensation rule, part of the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission's 2019 regulation, may be mandatory from March 13.
•The rule applies to 70 lakh smart prepaid consumers, who collectively have a negative balance of Rs 1400 crore.
•From March 13, smart meters will automatically cut power once the balance runs out, streamlining billing issues.
•UPPCL will refund or adjust Rs 127 crore collected as additional charges for smart meters after April 1, 2025.
