Ancient Vishnu Idol Unearthed in East Bardhaman Pond, Pala-Sena Era History Found

An 800-900 year old Vishnu idol from the Pala-Sena era was recovered during pond excavation in Baror village, East Bardhaman.
•
Villagers found the ancient idol, believed to be Lord Vishnu, and placed it in a temple.
•
Memari police were informed and took the idol to the police station, notifying Bardhaman University's Department of Archaeology.
•
Historians identified it as a classical 'Sthanaka' (standing) Vishnu idol made of black basalt, dating to the 10th-12th century Pala or Sena period.
•
The four-armed idol, in 'Sambhaga' mudra, features intricate ornamentation typical of ancient Bengal's artistic style, holding a mace and chakra.
