•A women-run Cooperative Credit Society launched in Katwa, East Bardhaman, to free women from microcredit traps.
•Inaugurated at Ashray Bhawan, attended by MLA Rabindranath Chatterjee and Municipal Chairman Kamalakanta Chakraborty.
•Aims to combat high-interest rates of private microfinance organizations, promoting self-reliance.
•Initially, 5,000 women are members, with a target of 10,000; membership costs 200 rupees per share.
